Suck It Haters

For some reason, and I have no idea why or when this started, Ohio State became the target of a lot of hate this year. Maybe it was because Notre Dame wasn't very good this year, so all of the jealous haters had to direct their venom elsewhere. Anyway, as a result posts like this and this were everywhere. Even my colleagues over at EC joined in the hate-fest with this and this.

Well, they're going to be in the championship game. So deal with it.

Do we need a playoff? Of course. Are the Buckeyes going to win the game? Maybe, but they will likely be the underdog no matter who they play. Do they deserve to be in the game? Absolutely. Abso-fucking-lutely. They lost one game by one touchdown to a top-15 ranked team. They played a non-conference schedule that was just as good as USC's. USC only beat two teams with winning records. OSU is as deserving as anyone else. Was the Big Ten weak this year? Perhaps, but not to the extent that a lot of people would lead you to believe. It does have 10 of 11 teams bowl-eligible. I don't think the Big Ten was significantly worse than the Big 12 or the Big East, and a few days ago we were all ready to put those conference's champions into the title game.
So the Buckeyes are going to be there. You haters might as well get used to it.

Amen, brother. Can't wait for the outcry this week. Now it's going to be all aimed at the conference championship nonsense.

It's about time we had some even-handed, impartial analysis on this blog!

All kidding aside, you are right... I think the point is that nobody has a right to complain about how everything shook out. Was Georgia playing as well as anyone at the end of the season? Maybe, but you can't lose two games and not even make it to your conference championship and expect to be in the BCS championship game! Same goes for USC; you can't lose two games with that schedule and reasonably argue you belong in the championship.

The big question now, though, is do you think OSU is wheeling back too quick to compete in this game, or would they benefit from another 1-2 weeks off?
